Saying Goodbye

The swifts the swallows and the martins

Arrived at different times

Each one of them determined

To extend their personal goodbyes

…

During the obligatory tete a tete

They all agreed he had no fear of dying

Not like he had of living yet another single day

On that note

I never met a braver man

Who only ever once admitted feeling sad

Just a moment before he let go and went his own way

After which

The swifts the swallows and the martins each departed having said farewell to an extra-ordinary Man in their own ways

I love this poem N. Birds are a beautiful poetic tool and here you have used them so effectively to signify release. Indeed, a profound truth stated here. Sometimes life is scarier and uglier than death. Having said that, he was wonderfully brave to say his goodbye so gracefully.

Losing someone so special, hurts more than anything ever does. Your words, as always, are placed in perfect light. Such people fly on forever, one just has to look to find.

So very true, yes, but most of us only have one darling dad.

cool and seriously appreciated..
An extraordinary poem. I am aghast there are no comments on this piece, but honoured to be the first to express my awe at this simple, but effective verse. They all gather round, at the time, don't they? The chattering masses. Birds. Some of them sincere. Some of them not.
