'Hungry Corner'

'Hungry Corner'

A Poem by Neville
"

A few observations from my most recent African Adventure 2014

"

'Hungry Corner'

Welcome to Hungry Corner

Where it is not unusual

For pot bellied children

To cry themselves to sleep

Dreaming of sun dried fish and rice

Welcome to Lonely Corner

Where no one ever smiles

Welcome to Hungry Corner

Where old men fill

Their empty bowls with culture

Together with their collective saliva

They drool and dream of a yesterday long gone

Welcome to Hungry Corner

Where the impossible is possible

And everything will inevitably turn out wrong

Author's Note

Neville
Make up your own mind but you can sponsor a child for very little per month or alternatively, you could sponsor the Tanka Tanka Foundation for 10 euro's for a whole year... Tanka Tanka is the only psychiatric hospital in The Gambia West Africa I worked as a volunteer there between Feb and April 2014... If anyone is interested in sponsoring please contact me and I will provide further details... Thanks N

Sometimes we must stop and think of those who are hungry and can only dream of food…those empty bowls go too long until a Caring person gives them a drop in the bucket… so may die of starvation… and we are gluttons in comparison, …..these are the realities of hunger worldwide ….
Thank you Neville for writing about this..

Certainly illustrates their harsh circumstances in a profound and picturesque way. This begs to garner the attention and kind support of everyone that is able to offer help and resources for these less fortunate and afflicted ones. I highly appreciate this endeavour of bringing to view their plight, and also the mention of this foundation. I have been a regular benefactor to groups with similar struggles in India.

thank you for the visit and indeed for your kindness
Hunger mind me its beef but there are those vegan put us with no food and will eat your dogs, food is our most greatest addiction, if we're hunger, we will eat what comes our way., like how you brought these words together, but in end it what we eat that makes us survive.

I love a that keeps my attention, lol
Hunger is a harsh companion that I have traveled with but rarely. When I first started to read this poem I took it metaphorically and thought of hunger in other areas, but here too we are often overfed and discard what would serve the needs of others. Well written on a deserving subject.

You really are most kind Meg, bless you my friend .. Neville :)
The way the sadness and cruelty of this world sit down beside us and damn us to do nothing about it.
I try in a couple of places. This encourages forthcoming help. Honestly.

every little helps as they say .. much appreciated Ken
Harsh realities that are so easily ignored whilst we sit in our posh homes eating like gluttons and discarding more food at each sitting than is laid eyes on in a week, in some parts.
I give at the holidays when everyone else does, or when there's a disaster. I'll feel shame for a moment, that I don't do more. Then carry on and not think about it until next Christmas or next earth quake. Out of sight, out of mind. Sadly.

Very cool.
This say a lot in a few stanzas. Knowledge while important will not feed a hungry belly and while knowledge is power without money for books and supplies that knowledge can’t be passed on to those in need.
