Death Wish

Death Wish

A Poem by Neville

Death Wish

Last night I should

Have died a hero

Instead as usual

No young virgin gypsy girl

Wakened me

I should have died last night

And been laid to rest

Somewhere on a hill

Then each day at dawn

The girls would come and bring wild flowers

To my grave

And whisper through the earth

I love you

The best of heroes do heroic deeds. Sometimes a death may be the most heroic thing a hero can do...

Multiple layers. Wanting to be a hero, wishing death, but not, and the love of one who cannot forget you when you are gone. A great write.

On this occasion, you are far too kind. Many thanks, N
How sad. Very nicely worded... I want to say I know the origin, but I'm probably way off. Neat poem!
