The Insult

The Insult

A Poem by Neville
"

Tell me what you see & then look again...

"

THE INSULT

You little maggot

How you cling to apples

Hardly able to grasp hold

Only to leave them rotting

Your fragile love

Will never last

Your light will fade

And I swear one day

Your body too will resemble

The bloody remains

Of the cider makers press

i saw the title and that you posted it and the hook was irresistible my friend :))))) hmmmm i see the maggot and the apple ... i relate it to a rotten relationship ... based on something shallow ...perhaps sex .. and misinterpreted for a Golden Delicious .. it feels like angst .. now to look again sir.
so ... the damnable maggot certainly faces an uncertain future as a fly ... pesky .. not well received by humans with a swatter ;) ...i read your note .. can i assume you are talking about cider? ..not sure how it connects ... going to read others comments and see if enlightenment can strike me .. loved reading .. i like the game of reading again ...

The predatory act of eating away at the sweet juice found in another is an excellent metaphor for "fragile love" which takes and hardly ever gives - -- a masquerade indeed of the real and you expose its shallowness as an insult with dire repercussions here Nev. ........ well that's I see it on first reading.

Nicely done Sir, but I admit having to peruse farther down, to Sir Noodle of Einsteinia's review to get the answer.
Up until thenI was thinking that you perhaps like me, found half of one in the bit of the apple you hadn't just swallowed, and are still in therapy to this day because of it.
I stick to bananas now, they come with their own jacket 😀

It's wonderful what a pint of scrumpy can do to the imagination. How many did you have before writing this, Neville?. Of course, the additional maggot protein was the extra spur.
Loved it. 🤪

This is beautifully crafted, Neville.
The topic and its underlying meaning wrote to me a message about the effect of insult.

It's my pleasure, Neville.
A parasite I think- either larvae, woman predator, or both. Riddle me this: does the apple rob the tree of nutrients as the maggot robs the apple of nutrients? Is it a vicious cycle? Your poem is food for thought Neville, and I loudly laud the wit it fed from. Missed reading you. Kudos my friend!

sentiment reciprocated :)
Telling it like it is:) The last three lines had extra venom in them. Pulp I thought. Yes, she's gonna end up as pulp. Relationships. Then I read it again and I thought this is about cider. Maybe a relationship with what your part of the world is well renowned for. A nice glass of. Then I read it again and I checked the date it was written :))

I think that perhaps the way that I read this is different than how you meant it to be perceived. I read this as being about a toxic relationship as well. It is well written though maybe a bit harsh but effective.

Insults be boomerangs, one hits and it hits back on him. Valid rant you've expressed. Whoever did wrong to you, wait till the boomerang hits him or her back and you don't have to do a single thing.
I like it when someone wears off his anger through poetry.
Keep writing!

Many things I love, but first -- your fine art of telling someone off, ensconced in gentle kind observations, not a constant stream of screeching (like I do). The apples/cider press metaphor is vivid & telling -- leading to your well-crafted ending that can be taken any number of ways (life's detritus? face's wrinkles? a shrew's venom? -- all sorts of "remains" possible!) Another one of yours that pops off the page (((CRUSH))) Fondly, Margie

Couldn’t help think it was about trolls. One thing is for sure no apple pie for you. Expressively written in fine style Nev on a third reading no apple cider for you either!
