Old Fashioned Love Song

Old Fashioned Love Song

Old Fashioned Love Song

I heard an old fashioned love song

On the radio today

The one that always made you cry

And so I thought of you

And all the things we used to do

Like walking in the winter rain

When I was cold

But the sun shone from your eyes

And made me warm again

I remembered walks through fields of corn

Of bathing in the sea at dawn

Of hide and seek between the sheets

And how your hair played with the breeze

I watched you when you were sleeping

Like a kitten by the fireside

You looked so warm and tempting

As you lay there softly breathing

And I wonder if you realised

Just how proud you made me

When I felt you still beside me

In the soft light of the morning

Like an echo of a lovers dream

From a far off distant mountain

I liked the above lines. Echoes of sweet memories. Gold for us in old age. Thank you Neville for sharing the amazing poetry.

Now ya talkin.. All Good Things, my brother....
Your words might have been 'dragged up' but my goodness, they still gently flow into what has to be (or you're a great actor1) of genuine emotions. The essence of a lover's being.. the sweet fun, the heat of night, the waking and contented retrospect, wrapped - if you like by crumpled silk. Surely the words are your best or certainly top of a very long list of : '.Like walking in the winter rain ~ When I was cold ~ But the sun shone from your eyes ~ And made me warm again. '

An Old Fashioned Love Song
Three Dog Night
Just an old fashioned love song
Playing on the radio
And wrapped around the music is the sound
Of someone promising they'll never go
You'll swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on
No need in bringing 'em back
'Cause they've never really gone
Just an old fashioned love song
One I'm sure they wrote for you and me
Just an old fashioned love song
Coming down in three part harmony
To weave our dreams upon and listen
To each evening when the lights are low
To underscore our love affair with tenderness
And feeling that we've come to know
You'll swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on
No need in bringing 'em back
'Cause they've never really gone
Just an old fashioned love song
Coming down in three part harmony

This sounds like that old fashioned song itself. The phrasing and rhyming are perfect for a song. I knew that you were a chocolate covered romantic at heart, and this little ditty proves it. Great piece, loved it!!!

This is a beautiful tribute to someone special . . . doesn't even need to be a lover . . . could be a sibling or a child or a dog! *wink! wink!* I always love the unusual details you pick to show your scenes . . . that you notice these particular things in life is what makes you so loveable! Good afternoon Neville. This old fashioned love song is simply lovely, and stanza four is my favourite. Your lines woven with the natural environment and full of enticing imagery. Is this one a really old one? I'm asking because this in my opinion is different from your more recent poetry. Hope you are having a great day, very busy here.
