Poppies

Poppies

A Poem by Neville
"

This is one of those that means more to me than I can paint....

"

Poppies

The true colour of venous blood

Sun dried tomatoes

Red chilli and sun-set skies

Poppies

Remind me always of

Victorian rouge

Fire engines post boxes and children’s toys

Poppies

Are always there when I close my eyes

Perfectly juxtaposed against

Children in pushchairs and widowed wives

Poppies

Pinned to the chests of so many survivors

Veterans and additional like-wisers

Purposely included here lest we forget

Are the cynics and of course the do-gooders

Each reflected in the shimmer and the glare from Whitewashed graves

Always remembered

What else is there to say

Unlike the Somme Passchendaele or Ypres

Let there always be another day

So far, from what I've ready I'd say your poetry is outstanding. Less is more. I read a great quote from a poet in the UK who said that a poem is a meeting between poet and reader and each brings something to create his own understanding.

You seem to know this instinctually; I am trying to learn it. I here I am, having gone on too long again.

A fine fine and noble tribute, yes, the pretty, demure, delicate red poppy flower, symbolic of the very gallant who paid the ultimate sacrifice for peace & liberty, ' Lest we forget '

I thought I left my words on your precious poppies before? I have no doubt that this is special to You and means more because this is what I felt while reading your sincere heartfelt and wistful words. You brought the past to the now, a timeless feeling I got reading this, a legacy that will always be. love this dear Neville.

I saw the field of poppies that were planted in memory of WW1. On the anniversary of something recently they surrounded a building in England with them. I can't quite remember but it was not so long ago. Seemed like you may have touched on that. I'll have to look up the French stuff you wrote. Places in the war maybe? Poppies are more than just flowers in so many ways.

Your poem is as meaning full as the poppies.
I can't help think though, I thought "civilized" nations were better than war.
And here we are ... on the cusp of another big one.

Is it a tribute to Veterans or the multi taking, ever symbolic flower the always seems to to be described in one way or another violently at one end of the spectrum, respectfully at the other end and with great admiration to those with addictive personalities. This is a very full piece of writing with is many ways to take the content besides the obvious. Neville...you are always pushing the envelope, I think its in your genetic code.
