What you describe here is the ultimate secret for moving on when one has had a bad experience with people. Even tho your message is seemingly about lovers, it also applies to me & my estranged family. It was a beautiful dawn when I could finally stop hating some & being bugged by others. This also reminds me of when we nurse a pet for a year & then it finally crosses the rainbow bridge. At first all we can think about are those horrible last months of slow dwindling . . . but eventually we think of the fun brought into our lives (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This hurts to read and it speaks a great deal about a relationship which wasn't exclusive. That is painful and to me bleeds with betrayal. However I am imposing my standards, but I still feel that despite that, this was a deep relationship for the writer, and there was much suffering. Some really descriptive, poetic lines. Yes, she still comes back to haunt you, though not as much as she once did. With the passing of time, do we get an eraser out and rub out some of it? Are we trying to make it seem better than it was? You certainly penetrated my outer shield with this poem.

How we suffer for love and how do you trust after betrayal? Pondering on that question.

your lines are very poetic my friend! there is a distinction between the physical and the deeper realm of emotion, mind and spiritual ... i think the Greeks are the ones that have a special word for man love .. and that deep relationship was much elevated ... kind of like the camaraderie of man at arms ...i like your note as well ... time is proven a fine healer for those that live long enough ;} but I'm not sure about the twisting ... sure we can "make" things seem fine ... but it doesn't really work says i ...i like the poetic flow of your poem and i think you give just enough for the reader to know a much more expansive "history" ..i also like the wistful melancholy and final bit of cynical reality in the closing

Ah.....it takes time.... and then with time
We learn to live with the pain....and slowly twist the memories to make it seem worth painting again and again in our own sweet words....
