When You Were Perfect

When You Were Perfect

A Poem by Neville
"

Just a poem & a chunk of me...

"

When You Were Perfect

You were by no means

The beginning

And now

There is no use pretending

That you might have been

The end

Never the less I loved your

False innocence

Those orphan clothes

Our differences

The way we were

When we were on our own

But like so many dreams

Ours faded

And now that it’s all over

Don’t hate me or the memories

We made but think of me with

Fond regard if you think of me at all

For nothing can

Now tarnish

My memory of you

As you were

When we were lovers

For then you were indeed perfect

When she was perfect, she was perfect. Taken away far too early & at that certain point of beauty I keep alluding to, or banging on about... N

You're welcome Neville. It was my pleasure.
When You Were Perfect, that is an exceptionally high summit to achieve. Most of us have faults and so do our dearest loved ones, but we accept them because they are so loved. To achieve perfection, that's something else. But then this is about a tragedy, and I think in those circumstances, when someone is taken from us at a tender age, we elevate them to the greatest height, and I think anyone would do that. This is tenderly written, makes you wonder what might have been. You have written a sad poem Neville, a very sad little poem.

I can really relate to this. It made me think of how we tend to see what we want to see when "love" hits. You have written the whole process perfectly of the life cycle of a relationship. Memories are part of that cycle and they, too, are subject to change as time progresses. I think to regard someone positively is the best way to go to prevent the angst and bitterness that may follow for some. I enjoyed this poem. Justine
