We are the victim of indifference

The masters of misfortune

And we demand to know

What right you have to label us insane

Laugh at our gutter romance

If it pleases you

Dance on the tiny graves of children

If it pleases you

But tell me this

What right have you

To hang some Latin name outside our door

Pardon my pickiness, but in the first line, I think “victim” might be better as plural!?!?! Right now in the USA, we are having a crisis of indifference, it seems. So I must interpret your poem with political overtones, which are so hard to avoid these days. The last line is especially powerful despite the subtlety, due to an insane amount of bad blood directed at our latin neighbors to the south & those who immigrate from that direction in particular. Still, I find your message to be more multi-layered than that & I’m not so good at catching all the layers. But I always admire your gentle way of addressing strife (((over-NUGS))) fondly, Margie

Aw gawsh Margie, you may just be right about that there missing S... having just checked the title.... my only excuse is the current preoccupation with the collective perspective which might excuse if not the present spelling, but rather promote it...... tis very old now tho so may or may not change, I need to think about it....... Last line got me thinking. Latin name outside the door. Who uses latin these days? (I studied it for two years and can now only remember amo, amas, amat). Medical terminology. Romance in a psychiatric unit? That's where you took me Neville. Now tell me I'm bonkers. You are one of several poets on here whose work is so multilayered I don't know where I'm going at times:))
