All these Words

All these Words

A Poem by Neville
"

A take on the past with references to 2 personal literary hero's

"

All These Words

Of all these words

Held in my head

Collectively reminiscent

Of some

Dylanesque air-raid

Like splinters

From an old ship wreck

As sharp as any

Cohen razor blade

Nevertheless I hasten to add

She will eventually

Get bored

She will also grow old

And whilst this might be hard to envisage

Right now

Be sure to try and understand

The fundamental law

That time is not a real friend

Of anyone

I shall not take issue with the loveliness of the poem, but will with the conclusion. Time is very much my friend, as it pushes me on, despite my tendency to linger, RL Stevensonlike, on the precious moments. The way ahead is hazardous, yes, and WONDERFUL.

I like the end. And it is not a friend, certainly, to most, but to some of us we grow wiser nonetheless.
