Don't Let Me Die Fat

Don't Let Me Die Fat

A Poem by Neville

Don’t Let Me Die Fat

Don’t let me die fat

Please don’t let me die old

Prove to me you love me

Then just do as you are told

Man can not live on poetry alone

She whispered

Into the dust jacket of

Yet another anthology

Then my friend she proceeded

To sigh

Time has not been as good to you

As the years have been for him

All those diets and the exercise

Supremely failed

To keep you either young or thin

Oh lord don’t let me die fat, he cried

I understand this. Not the frightened of dying bit. I am supremely unfrightened of that. But as I am tryin g to lose weight because of the two major operations that are coming in my life I understand it. And I disagree with some of your lines as spoken apparently by a female. This is not simply a female or even a sex perogative. But in another way I do understand completely what your protagonist is saying.
Written well and points made beautifully

An oldie out for an airing Neville and I am the first person to leave a comment in over five years and 140 views. Your title drew me in, actually made me smile. Your lines appear to be spoken by one other. At first I thought it was a long time ago, but on reflection I think not. Women worry about their weight, they are also the ones who need assurance that they are loved, and they can also be bossy. Do as you are told, made me smile. There is one stanza which comes across as unkind and that one is
Time has not been as good to you
as the years have for him.

It may have been said as a joke but I think it comes across as insensitive. Only you will know that.

The way to stop yourself from dying fat, is to have more control yourself over what you consume. No one else can do that for you.

The please don't let me die old, reminded me of my Dad. He told me at 55, the thought of being really old scared him. He got his wish, he died at 60.

I wonder if man can live on poetry alone? That's it, have a good Bank Holiday week-end.

Chris
