Fire Crest

Fire Crest

A Poem by Neville

Fire Crest

Dance naked for me Fire-crest

Decapitate the rose

Then tell me of your love for sailors

And remember

This last half gram of opium

Can only be

A token of my love for you

there is a dark beauty in this piece, firecrest a firecracker.. in title and essence.. and even in self-destruction it seems we still see the beauty in this world, decapitate the rose, a striking line.. reminds me of a natural savagery.. love the passion that's conveyed and the descriptions being so visceral in a few words, just mesmerising to the reader.

thank you sette, it is meant to be a bit like that, probably, maybe, possibly, I think.... N
Love, violence and drugs all in the same short poem Neville. I'm not even going to try and go anywhere with this. I'm just gonna say this is one of Neville's special recipes. Cooking up another treat for his readers. The only firecrest that I have known is a bird, a little warbler.

"Firecrest"
Neville Petitt,
The descriptive title is the theme here. Your poem ends with "A token of my love for you" It is a love which is a burning flame and destructive burning. Then your mention: "decapitate the rose" and I felt like the use of this drug, opium's history in time and the mention of sailors: "then tell me of your love of sailors" was quite fitting. This poem made me think.
Blessings,
Kathy

I am stuck on "decapitate the rose" and your lack of fondness for my similar analogy - nevertheless, I like this one, a lot.
