Spring Heat

Spring Heat

A Poem by Neverwhere

Sneaking out to meet behind the Chinese restaurant

Is that Mongolian Beef?

Uhm, Chow Mein, thank you

God,I have to get back before they notice

We kiss and part, running in opposite directions

Street lights casting shadows of our forms

On the back alleys into the night

Thank God I found you today, it's so hot

These Azaleas are the perfect place to rest

They are always watching me now

What do you think we should do...

Spring is here, the warmth makes me feel languid

I want to be outdoors, by his side

Why can't they understand me, I wonder

Excited, I found a place for us to be together in secret

It's by the giant Redwoods,so quiet and perfect

No one could find us there and I found a secret spot

It is a a hidden hole in one of the trees, a little retreat

A sudden shower, I can't get away, why today?

This was to be our day together

I wonder if he is waiting there at our rendezvous

At last we are together, pure bliss, never anything like this before

His eyes are so green looking into my blue ones

His fur is so soft against mine, the muscles rippling underneath

"Princess, so this is where you got to!  OH GOD, not with some stray alley cat, you don't!"

"BAD GIRL!"

Author's Note

Neverwhere
I was thinking of the cats running around behind my house at night, the movie, "The Cat Returns" from Gibli Studios, a a friend whose avatar is a anime styled white long furred cat girl who is very feisty and prone to getting into trouble with wicked cute guys.

Mongolian beef is popular here too. It's the cumin that makes it so tasty. I can imagine the cats running around the alleys of the noodle shops. That's life here but the cats are extremely cautious of dogs. I liked the changing scenery as the poem advanced.

I could smell the noodles and other tasty foods as I wrote this, like the steam from the back alley-.. read more
this is gorgeous. I love cats and I love this poem that you have written from their viewpoint, and oh the story of ages about an "alley cat" with someone they "ought not to be around". I love it and I hope you keep writing awesomeness like this!
