Mood Indigo - A Haibun

Mood Indigo - A Haibun

A Poem by Neverwhere
"

Another trip down the Haibun path...

"

The rain comes down in sheets from blueish grey clouds on a chilly winter day.  It is almost my birthday right before the Christmas holidays in December.  I bake holiday cookies by the sheet for family and friends.  Sugar, Double Chocolate, Toll-house, Ginger Snaps, Oatmeal, and place them in tins and in cello bags tied with brightly colored ribbon.  Music always plays in my home, holiday usually at this season, but with this weather I decide on Jazz.  On of the greats, Duke Ellington.  He died in 1974 when I was a small child, but I grew up listening to his music along with Glen Miller, Gershwin, Miles Davis, swing, big band, and jazz.  The stereo clicks as the CD player shuffles and Mood Indigo begins to play.  I stop what I am doing and rest my chin in my hands to listen.  He wrote this song in his home, in the kitchen in under ten minutes.  That is sheer genius in my mind.  I sigh and hum along and go back to my baking.  It is still raining.

Author Notes

I am still new to the Haibun format but I hope that you will feel the characteristics of a Haiku with the Haibun itself and enjoy the Haiku that is the key to a successful Haibun's conclusion. I really do love Big Band, Swing, Jazz, and the Blues. This is piece is based on true events.
