The Listener

The Listener

A Poem by Dan

The Listener

I want to be the one you need,

So tell me all your hopes and fears,

Smile that smile and cry those tears,

The Listener has open ears.

It pains me so to know you're hurt,

You won't allow your guard to fall,

Let me in and tell me all,

The Listener awaits your call.

If it helps to hit me, please feel free,

If it's what you need to help you heal,

If it helps you cope with what you feel,

The Listener is made of steel.

I've been to where you languish now,

I know that life is seldom kind,

I understand that love is blind,

The Listener can read your mind.

I'm here and I will hold you close,

So I can soak up all your pain,

If cry you must, don't cry in vain,

The Listener will true remain.

I want to be the one you need,

So tell me all your hopes and fears,

Smile that smile and cry those tears,

The Listener has open ears.
