MermaidA Poem by NevenaShe is prisoner to her nature.Ocean is far too heavy a word For her home is not a great destructive weight Birds fight and flap and force themselves to fly When she simply swims in her Liquid sky.
Neither man nor beast could ever Conceive such a creature Life is too concrete a word To describe her Existence.
She may say she feels weightless with The water caressing her limbs But obscured by waves she grows more and more Desperate to reach The shore.
Born wrong, entirely wrong This place is not a kingdom, it's a trap No matter where you swim You will Always sink.
To fill the hunger in her black heart Which is encased by slippery seaweed ribs She uses her beauty as a weapon To lure in A love stricken sailor.
And though the seaweed ribs have grown ill Exposing a salt-stained heart of coal Forever and ever she'll sing her siren's song As she consumes a man With every meal. © 2012 NevenaAuthor's Note
