Hold Me

While I wrote this a few years ago, it's always been one of my favorite pieces I've written. Mostly because it's still very true.

Just hold me,

Nothing else today.

Let me trust you,

But it may take time.

Protect me,

Let me know my heart is safe with you.

Kiss me,

With care and support.

Encourage me,

Tell me I’ll get there one day.

Believe in me,

Even when I may not.

Comfort me,

Even if it’s just listening.

Support me,

In easy and hard times.

Don’t run,

Cause then everything is gone.

Don’t let me run,

Cause I may.

Care about me,

And show you do.

Give me time,

To trust you and know you’re true.

Have control,

Don’t let me go crazy.

Don’t lie,

Always tell me the truth even if it might hurt me.

But most importantly,

Just hold me.

Cause most days that’s all I want,

And with that, I’ll trust you.

"It was written a few years ago" It could have been written in this moment. If you wrote this 10 years from from nothing would change. This speaks of grounded fundamental basic needs that a healthy relationship requires to be just that. The writers understanding of personal expectations in any relationship is admirable...There are no unrealistic visions of grandeur, just a fundamental human need to be loved and respected. I respect your conclusion but would only offer that to me there are no conditions for trust, no varying levels of trust. There is either trust or there is not. Trust is neither Back or white. Trust is...
