Same Blood

Same Blood

A Poem by Sunset Girl

You of all people,
I don't understand.
After all the times I was there for you,
You let me down.

Of all people,
You can't be there now.
You cut me down,
But what do you have to show
      For your so-called "perfect" life?
You've let me down,
After everything I've done for you.

It's always about you,
Never me.
We go where you want to go,
Do what you want to do.
It's always your problems that matter,
And my life is just "childish"

They say in time,
You learn who you're real friends are.
We may be blood
But some days that's all you are to me.
Same blood, same gene line,
But very different lives.

Of all the people,
How can you let me down,
Of everything I've given you,
How can you give me nothing in return?

Author's Note

Sunset Girl
I don't normally vent like this publicly, but this really was about how even sometimes your family can "grow apart" and people who were your best friends when you were growing up (even into your 20s) can suddenly not be there and you wonder if they ever were. It's a sad day when you realize this.

. it's perfectly alright, my friend ... this is a powerful piece ... and i definitely relate to this ... there's someone in my family who is like that ... he has managed to burn his bridges with everybody ... he started off trying to explode mine but has ended up losing all the credibility he ever had ... it's quite sad ... my guess is that it's some sort of severe insecurity that causes this ... it's a fear of losing importance ... and you know how fears are ... they always manifest ... so he's ended up losing all his importance ... so, once again, this is a powerful piece because it's very insightful and we all know someone who is like the character you've so skillfully etched ...

I agree with .me.'s review...usually that kind of behavior comes from a deep insecurity on their part. Perhaps, they may even be envious of you in some way. This is a poem that many can relate to. It is a painful thing to feel unaccepted in your own family.

Glad to see you posting again!
