Halfbreed

Halfbreed

A Poem by Jake Weller
"

Magic, sacrifice, metamorphosis. Enough said...

"

Sweet incense fills the chamber

A fiery brazen burns deep violet

Arcane runes line the star that focuses the growing power within

Succumbed in meditation, the adept chants

Candle wicks dance to their death as a chilling wind fills the room

Moon light seeps through a crack in a window

Glossy black liquid slides down a pinnacle

Caught in a spiraling crevice

Drops ominously fall into the chalice

Essence to the ceremony

The young man grasps the offering bringing it to his lips

Smoke fills the glass orbs that are his eyes

With the cruel barb of an augmented dagger, the servant carves the sacred mark into his breast

The stubborn flock

The brazen shifts to black as the ritual reaches its climactic point

Blood rapidly crystallizes forming a sanguine shell ever deepening in hue

Fibers of muscle grow and twist, developing, tightening

Shadows gather around the metamorphosis

Thin twisted horns push from the mans skull, lengthening

Dark grey fur grows, knuckles and joints crack

Clawed hands and cloven hooves emerge

The wilderness embraces the half breed Satyrr

A vivid depiction of a magical transformation, well written and spell binding.

Brings back other memories as well ... strange how our minds gravitate toward the esoteric, magical.
