They Used to be TwinsA Poem by Nessie_AJA ballad about political injustice and an autistic boy who could't understand it all. Please enjoy! Review! They Used to be Twins I once treated a young child; his personality numb but this was due to the prudent fact that he possessed autism. “So Mason,” I would ask “Where do we begin?” Mason uttered the simple words “They used to be twins.” I sat there confused; as Mason grabbed a tissue. I sat back in my chair as he talked about the issue. “They used to be twins. I saw them in the city.” Identical they seemed to be, and they were very pretty.” “But who were the twins Mason? Can you tell me that?” He shook his head and just replied, “You’ll have to ask my dad.” I scribbled in my notepad. “Your father knew the twins?” “Oh yes,” Mason replied. “That’s how the story begins.” “He knew the twins quite well. He saw them every day. He even worked with them Until they went away.” I remained puzzled at the story Mason told Then I looked out the window and everything grew cold. A light bulb went off. “Your father went to heaven. The twins are the towers. and they fell on 9/11.” The kid didn’t say a word He didn’t bat an eye. He stared out the window He didn’t even cry. “How do you feel about your dad?” There were goosebumps on my skin. But the boy never answered; he simply said “They used to be twins.” © 2014 Nessie_AJAuthor's Note
