A Chapter by Vanessa

Missing someone isn’t about how long it has been since you’ve seen them

or the amount of time you’ve talked.

It’s about that very moment when you’re doing something

and wishing they were right there with you.

Journal Entry #10

None of it was planned. How could anyone think it would be? I’m not perfect; no one is. I couldn’t have planned for any of this to happen. People can say the worst things when they see something they don’t like. Sometimes I wish people could actually mind their own business; especially when no one asked for their opinion. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to take this anymore. I’m not accepted the way I am and it hurts me so much.

I just love her so much and to not be able to be with her because of everyone else is just sickening. I could care less what people think but my parents don’t think that way; if they don’t like it, well, that’s that.

I’ve decided to run away with her tomorrow. It doesn’t matter what my friends or anyone else think; it’s my choice now and it is final. Tomorrow will be the start of my new life and you can be damn well certain that it will be the best.

Her last entry in her journal had been difficult to write as tears spilled from her eyes. She didn’t really want to leave but she couldn’t stand how things were anymore. Just because she liked girls and her parents didn’t want that for her didn’t meant there was something wrong with her. She wasn’t the only person that was like that. There were plenty of others around so why did she have to have parents that hated that idea. They wanted to take her happiness away. Did they want her to live with some guy that she would never love and have a pathetic life like they had?

She stood up from her bed and went over to her mirror and looked at herself for a moment. Her dark hair that naturally flowed was now in tangles at the tips. Her pale brown eyes now glimmered from the tears and her eyes and cheeks were puffy. Her lips were dry and chapped from the sobs. This wasn’t her in front of the mirror anymore. That joyous girl that laughed at everyone had been replaced by someone else. By someone who was tormented by everything. That girl who had no care in the world was now burdened by every horrible thing people had said to her. That girl was no longer here; she was gone forever.

For some time it would be hard for her to get through it all but she knew she had to. This wasn’t her life anymore; she needed to find herself again. Her bags were packed; by nightfall she’d be gone for good. After the past week nothing sounded better than leaving and never turning back. Nothing would change her mind now. Nothing could ruin that moment for her; except that sound of a crash just outside her house. The one thing she never expected to hear. The thing that ruined her life forever.
