our separate ways

our separate ways

A Poem by NessaJO
"

i wrote this when i left my husband for another guy... you will soon read about him

"

You will soon be just a memory in time
A mistake that i will never live down
I love you i really do
i cant go on in life being second best
I'm your wife,
I'm the one that should be first
Maybe we were just too young
Maybe you just got sick of me
Maybe I didn't try hard enough
Maybe we never cared at all
It was all an infatuation
Do you think?
Why is this so hard?
We know what we are doing wrong
We know that we can work it out
But we have chose to go our separate ways
Well we have to admit
that forever is not as long as we expected

I like this poem.
I love your opening verse "you will soon be just a memory in time", it's quite engaging.
The repetition of "Maybe" makes the mood indefinite; a "friendly" way of expressing one's self
while asking critical qeestion such as
"It was all an infatuation
Do you think?
Why is this so hard?
We know what we are doing wrong"

the usage of "we" in the poem gives it a mutual understanding.
It really gives the poem a sense of togetherness, yet the distance/separation between the couple is obvious.

a bittersweet irony of course:

"But we have chose to go our separate ways
Well we have to admit
that forever is not as long as we expected"

great poem
thank you for sharing a personal experience through your work
