Stone Butterfly

Stone Butterfly

A Poem by Nery Loo

To be as free as a butterfly
to dance and flutter about
without the slightest care,
she's weightless
a shimmering glittering butterfly
but her reality is that she's a rock
at the bottom of the sea
seldom moving
unchanging, plain and dull.
This heaviness delays her
crushes her soul
motionless annoyance
deterring all she knows,
Wanting to chisel away at the rock
and carve out a beautiful butterfly
nonetheless a butterfly made of stone can't fly
can't float less hope,
because even though
the outer appearance is beautiful now
inside she's still rough, dull and heavy.
She'll never be a part of anything beautiful
so she'll remain at the bottom of that ocean
unmoving, unchanging, nothing.
