![]() Chapter 1: A Strange EssenceA Chapter by Juan Rivera
"Where is it?" A figure ran through a field of tall grass. "Why can't I find it again." The figure waves their hands through the blades of grass, trying to catch a glimpse of location.
"Madame, I believe we missed it. Shall we try and go back to the main road?" Screeched a bat, fluttering from beneath the figure's cloak. He flapped his wings with power, trying to stay above her. "Hmm. I guess so. Let's head back, shall we?" She turned around with a upset face. "Atom, why don't you just fly and search for it?" She suggested as she caught her breath. "Clever idea, Madame. I shall give it a try." Atom flew up into the air and soared around, looking for his master's destination. Just look for a temple, or cave, or just a stone structure. He thought to himself. He made his way into the moonlight, noticing smoke arising from a distance. Peeking from the top of the blades of grass was a stone building. He felt relief and flew back down to his master. "Madame! Madame!" He tried to catch his breath. "I have found it. Just due East." The bat snuggled under her hood. Her face lit up, possessing a freakish smile. She sprinted towards East, jumping over rocks and sliding past grass. She abruptly stopped at the sight of people, making Atom fly out of her cloak. Atom flew right into a woman's back as she was huddling around the campfire. "What the hell? What touched me? Jason!" She cried, jumping off the log and running over to her husband. "Calm down, Marge. It was only a bat." He assured her. "If it makes you feel better, we can eat it for dinner." He grinned. Her face lit of with excitement and nodded. Jason bent over and reached towards Atom. "Stop!" A voice shouted from the field. Jason and Marge jumped and took a step back. Atom's master emerged from the green field. She walked over towards the scared couple, making them take some more steps backwards. "So, you think bats are tasty? I'll give you the taste of something even better." She took out her staff as it lit up with a red light. She chanted underneath her breath as the light flashed. Jason and Marge stood in fear as hundreds of locusts covered the sky. They dived down and right into the mouths of the couple. Atom stood in fear at the shrieks of the couple, scratching at their necks. They both dropped to the ground as the locusts disappeared in a cloud of red smoke. "Madame, why would you do that? You didn't have to kill them." Atom screeched in a high pitched tune. "They were going to kill you. I had to do something for my favorite bat." She grinned. Atom was a sucker for compliments. "Favorite, huh? Well, I guess it's OK." The bat soaked up the compliment. The woman brushed some of her black hair out of her face. Her black cloak covered her whole body, not an arm or leg to be seen. Her black hood covered most of her jet black hair. "OK, let's head on. Time to end this time of ignorance." She walked into the stone temple, holding her staff. "What do you think those people were for? They couldn't be here for the same thing as you, right?" Atom rested on his master's shoulder. "No, just humans being the imbeciles they are. Probably thought there was treasure in this place." She laughed. "Oh, what those greedy things wouldn't do." Her footsteps echoed in the long hall. It soon ended at the entrance of a small room. A old and dusty shrine marked with blue paint resided in it. She studied the shrine. "Madame, where is the rune?" Atom was very confused. His master took out her pendant, a black circle connected to a pearl necklace. She slid the black circle into a slot in the shrine and the blue paint lit up the room. A bright blue light formed above the shrine, forming a stone. A bright orange letter appeared on it, E. "The rune.." Atom looked in amazement. His master took back her pendant and reached for the sparkling rune. She gingerly grabbed it, and brought out a pouch from inside her cloak. She slid the rune into it and tied it closed. The shrine exploded into color, and crumbled apart accompanied with a loud noise. She laughed. "Oh, how I am glad I found one. Now, for the other ones. Time to let the world know of my name and destiny. I, Eclipse, shall bring the world to it's doom!" She laughed hysterically. Atom flew back a bit and looked at her skeptically. What has she become since they met.
