Until he showed up

Until he showed up

A Story by Juan Rivera
"

It meant to be just me and my friend, until he showed up.

"
The wind picked up about an hour ago when my parents left for a midnight party. It blew the snow around violently, making it seem like a blizzard was happening outside. I went into my room to clean out my gecko's cage when my friend messaged me if I wanted to hang out. I said sure, why not. He lived a block away, about a five minute walk. I heard a knock on the door about a minute earlier, I wasn't that shocked he showed up early since it was freezing outside. Being in my room unable to see or reach the door, I yelled it was unlocked and for him to come in. I heard the door swing open and then slam shut. Then heavy footsteps went toward the basement door by my room. I walked out of my room to check on my friend, when I heard someone else knock on the door. I answered it and it was my friend, all bundled up in his heavy jacket. I turned pale, and I felt uneasy. Maybe I was just imagining things? I do sometimes hear noises that aren't really there. I explained to my friend what had happened, and he told me to shrug it off. We played some video games and went to sleep. The next morning, around six, I heard a knock at my bedroom door. I figured it was my parents so I yawned, "what?" I then heard a very deep voice say, "It was nice hanging out with you, let's do it again sometime." I then heard footsteps walk through the hallway, then the sound made it's way toward the front door and I heard the door open and slam shut. I looked at my friend who was still asleep while I was scared out of my mind. I sat on my bed, not saying a word, cradling myself. My friend woke up some hours later and asked what was wrong, I did not say anything about the man. I just said that I was still extremely tired. He left later that day. I sat at my computer desk in the darkness playing with some people online. I paused when I heard the front door open then shut. Footsteps made their way toward my room, and I heard my door open up behind me. I was frozen in my chair, I couldn't move or talk. I felt a beefy hand reach onto my shoulder, and that same deep voice from before said in the dark, "I'm glad I took a key so we can hang out again, alone."
