A Lover and I

Just a lover and I,
Our only cloak
Mists of smoke,
The questionable kind
That gets us through a night.

Our eyes rival glass,
reflecting flickering light,
passing from a steady stream
of cars and twisting sirens,
filtered through thin blinds.

The bed shifts
and my side is cold.
The comfort goes
and he is clothed
with business attire and gold.

My pockets are full
lined with shame and grime,
as I didn’t know his name.
He didn’t hold my heart,
though he touched my breasts.

Yet there we laid,
together… apart.
As one, but not the same.
And here it is I wait,
for just another lover.

And I…
Nameless,
Faceless,

just another
fleeting lover.

I like the poem, although i have to question the prostitution assumption. Empty sex for a woman doesn't need to deem her a prostitute, her full pockets could come from the same place as his business attire and gold-- this society and its symptoms.

Unfortunately, his apathy and her emptiness are also symptoms of that same social world. Just another perspective :)
