The Music Box DancerA Poem by NeoGen87
Solitarily I sat alone
Placed neatly to adorn the shelf Kept pristine with a glossy sheen I don't want you to be the next I just want you to be my last Our dance was beautiful But like with time, beauty fades This is our last chance for a first dance Our love was like a music box With no key to the locks There was nothing there to mend Our song was destined from the start to end And all of our time has faded All of our memories are frayed Here's a lullaby to close my eyes I will stay here waiting to apprise When the lid was open I was the dancer Only seen when played And you were the song With a tune for all to hear As the crank turned I could feel your embrace But never could hold you as my partner Our love was like a music box Was our dance genuine or just all but a faux Will there ever be anything to attend Or was it all just a passing trend All of our time has been taken And all of our memories were all but forsaken Here's a lullaby to close my eyes I don't want to be left to feel cauterized As the gears take their final turn And my dance comes to it's final gambol With a descending tear I watch through my keyhole As your melody is carried by another I am left to listen to your fading harmony Will my key ever be found to set me free Will the rhythm of my dance ever coalesce it's euphony © 2015 NeoGen87Author's Note
