You Again

You Again

A Poem by Nelyn Salvaleon

I always feel excited to see you
But can't dare to look at you
I don't really understand why I can't forget you
You were never mine, but you're always on my mind
And this heart of mine says, "Wish you were mine"

When I saw you lately,
I was about to stare at your eyes, but you looked the other way
I guess we're really not meant to be
I'll just have to accept you're not destined to me
But I can't let my feelings for you go away

I still remember the times when we were still friends,
And the time when I felt like we could be more than friends
I thought my feelings for you were gone
But here I am, thinking of you again
Is there a chance for you to like me again?

this was a very personal experience, yet it is near universal. that one gets away is almost a rite of passage. that last line, a plea, is a question nobody can answer but almost everyone asks. this whole work is rich in pathos. a candid confessional poem.
