Dementia

Dementia

A Poem by NellaKovska
"

Ever came across someone with Dementia? Have you ever witnessed that look in their eyes? If you have, then this poem is for.

"
His shaking hands
Clutched on the hospital Bed
He had forgotten many things
But he didn’t forget why he was there

His eyes screamed in agony
as the relfection in the mirror
 was old and wrinkly

In his last memory
he was young and vibrant
everything after was hazy

The hospital was cold and murky
in the midst layed a poisoned mind
lost in time

the nurses approached him
like a being without a limb
you have a visitor,your daughter
they said

His eyes turned into glass
They were drained of life
apathetic of soul
 and clueless

His eyes where disconnected
He had no recollection
He had no connection

The poor child
knocked knees to ground
Her puddle of tears
mirrored the look of desperation
in his eyes

wasn't the first
a tear for cry
left his hopeless lost
eye

his lips gave out a line
they have said many times
but for them it was
like the first time

He uttered the words

I do not remember you.

My grandfather suffered from dementia. It was heartbreaking. He wasn't allowed to drive anymore but always felt the need to drive and somehow he'd know the way to my house but whenever he got there. He didn't know who I was or where he was. Just blank and lost. I'd drive him home each time. Very well done and well written. It reminds me of him.

Bloody hell mate, I can't even begin to fathom the amount of emotion pulsating through this piece. Lekker job.
