You Cannot Escape ItA Poem by PidgeeSoloPoem for English class. It's about one's personal journey, and how growing up can ruin one's childhood. You Cannot Escape It I was born a lighthearted child, I knew no fear, Dancing down the hallway, a melody only I can hear. If I spied a body of water, splash! There I went, If I saw a feline on the street, dash! Cats were never my ailment. Everyone was my friend, that I knew, Everyone loved me back, because I loved them too. Splish, splash! Dance, dash! What a wonderful world I was in. Time went by, as time always does, and I grew older, I saw
more. Rankings, relationships. Fandoms, fetishes. I was an alien to this unnatural world. Stumbling though school, a calf on new legs, Unprepared, undetermined, unidentified. Shiver, shake! Quiver, quake! Such scarring things I saw. Sometimes I feel the nostalgia; it’s a river in my heart. Sometimes I long for the younger years, When all was good, all was great. The pitter-patter of tiny feet on a glossy hard-wood floor, The ping-pangs, zing-zangs from Saturday morning cartoons. They all seemed lost. Nevermore would I be the same, A terror-filled world with hardships to blame. People pretend, people are fake, But it’s all we can do when our lives are at stake. A secret we all know, but none will admit. The crushing force of reality comes to be, I realize I’m no longer me. Burning, bumpy, blistering blotches, And hollow aches on road kill bones. Growing up is the Hunter, My Life is the Mother, And I, a frightened and terrified Bambi. © 2012 PidgeeSolo |
