Burial at KinderhookA Poem by NeilSHowe
Old Kinderhook oh patch of ground;
Dig a deep trough in hallowed soil; Push me in and cover me up; Where a nation salutes the very thought; Of men in coats and toil; In common agreement of words; we say; To bring together and to defend; Liberty and pursuit of joys; In life lived true and just but simple; And return to grave of uncertain will; To be avoided but be expected; In soft earth among friends; In landed tribute to an idea; Please bury me here and whisper OK. -NSH © 2017 NeilSHowe |
