Path of Shades

Path of Shades

A Poem by Octavious
"

This is a slow kind of song.

"
Verse one:
I've been walking the path of shades,
Of black, and white.
Being cautious of every movement,
no feelings in between.
Bravery is frowned upon,
take all the chances away,
of mistakes, oh the memories,
of mistakes, oh to learn, be free.
Take my chances,
learn to walk on my feet,
everyone dies, but not everyone can breath.

Verse two:
Regrets, and mistakes,
their issues we face,
the colors of life,
the cuts of pain,
the tears of joy;
they're memories made,
the stories we tell,
the journies we face,
they make strong for our hardest days,
so why do we live,
in the paths of safety shades?

Bridge:
Never-mind, I'll stray alone,
I'll break free, I'll break free
for the rainbow,
as we say our good byes,
and you stay,
and you stay,
and you stay - in the path of shades . . .

Chorus:
My life was a mess,
but now I am free,
soon I'll be grown with my memories,
The black and white is free of me,
the colors are what I choose to see,
say good-bye to the shades,
'cause now I can finally breath.

Verse three:
I can walk through freedom of life,
with the sand in between my toes,
the life black and white behind,
the potential in sight,
the dreams that come before me in the night,
have lead me to my greatest success,
and now I look upon you dear,
and guide you to the lights,
of mistakes, oh this life.
Make mistakes, oh the beauty of time.
ooooh, ooh, ooh , ooh ,ooh ,ooh, oooooooh
I warn you,
you'll fall,
and rise, and rise to the end.

Chorus:
My life was mess,
but now I am free,
soon I'll be grown with my memories,
The black and white is free of me,
the colors are what I choose to see,
say good-bye to the shades,
'cause now I can finally breath.

Verse four:
But I wish you were here,
no its not okay, after all of this time
you're still in the grey,
You still ask me why,
to this very day,
but I can say nothing, but the memories that ache.
I showed the colors,
I showed you the way,
but you stayed,
but you stayed,
but  you stayed - in the paths of shades . . .

I like this a lot. The darker feel to it is probably more my favorite genre of music. Great writing, the flow is wonderful. I would love to hear this on the radio or look it up on Youtube! Haha.

Thank you so much Emily :)
I did like this - and before reading the AN (though with your slow 'feel' comment in mind) I did see Dionne Warwick singing this in my head. I like the repetition of you stayed...shades.
It had a sound enough flow to it - maybe some trimming or slight re-arranging of the final lines in each verse but it was good, I felt, Octavious.
Well penned. :)

There just seems like too much words. But that might not be the case when you put them to a melody -.. read more
You have the format down perfectly and I, too, would love to hear this to music. Nice job!
