Hide My Thoughts In The Shadows (Age 16)
A Poem by Andy Hackett
About me keeping my real feelings from my loved ones.

And you're wrapped in silence as I spin my story,
Like the hero rapt by witches in a strange tragedy.
I strive for you to understand. You look, don't see.
Answer me or be damned. Take a second to study
These eyes that know you like the leaves on a tree,
You could take just one second to at least notice ME.
You hold out. My heart beats quicker father, mother.
I'm raging, but I still do hide it well, sister, brother.
I'm caging it, but what was that sudden shudder?
Do you take my happy exterior lightly, secret lover?
Down, down down, you smash me to the ground.
You've burnt the bridge already, no going back now. |

A very intense and masculine piece. I love the desperation in the dialogue:
"Answer me or be damned. Take a second to study"
The inner dialogue in this is incredibly passionate and unforgiving:
"Do you take my happy exterior lightly, secret lover?
Down, down down, you smash me to the ground.
You've burnt the bridge already, no going back now."
I love the darkness and aggression in this piece...
the desperation of the narrator to be noticed and seen for his true nature is apparent and intoxicating. Thank you..I love it.
