My Gray Skies Lost Their Blue (Age 16)

My Gray Skies Lost Their Blue (Age 16)

A Poem by Andy Hackett
"

Thoughts on what the consequences would be if I told a friend I liked her as more than a friend.

"

There is a place I go where, always night and day,
I can always go there, a rest from life's crusade,
It is a world I know and love, great like the open sea,
And right now I am thinking of my free world, for me.
It is never far away, and never far from home,
Dreaming now, I can truly say, to it I'm rightly sewn,
And I can touch the madness that comes in its soft burn,
And blow away my sadness when this land of friends returns.

Silently I notice, when always night and day,
Suddenly I get this feeling that stays when you're away,
Now my world is gray when once 'twas a golden hue,
Ripping me to pieces today, because now I'm without you.
Perhaps I shouldn't have said it, then we would still be friends,
And I wouldn't regret it, this heart that never mends.
