A Definitive End

A Definitive End

A Poem by Hannah Neal

Glowering despondent reflection

Self-asphyxiated

Widening dimming eyes

Over-medicated

Clutching fingers gripping counter

Desperate senses pleading insanity

Sweaty forehead; spirit decayed

Clinging vainly to humanity

Empty ecru bottles

Crowding tabletops

Capsules sliding dryly down

Another handful, never stop

Frigid metal seeking a temple

Chilling shivers seize control

Nervous fingers tremble fearfully

Lonesome misery, devoid of solace

Mind is clouding, insecure

Despair declares its victim

Tiresome failure’s taunting forces

Miserable resignation

Submission into bitter demise

Eyelids closing with finality

Final moments for repentance

Fleeting conscious and veracity

Trigger finger trembling, yet

Resolve maintains inflation

Inexpressive hollow corpse

Surrenders; deteriorating

Soothing click resounds aloud

Eardrums pump adrenaline

Heartbeat quick, exhilaration

Drowns residual cognizance within

Reverberating gunshot

Silencing mortality distressed

Secluded essence, nomadic forever

Enduring perpetual unrest.

The first stanza rocked me on this one as I had my younger brother end it by hanging. Rough read but one worth wading through. There never seem to be enough answers when someone close to you calls it quits and gives up any chance and changing the path they are on. There is never enough solace, whiskey or whatever you use to fill the void. There is just this huge hole left where that person was a part of your life, emptiness that can never be regained... well done.
