Dead ReckoningA Story by NealHalloween Flash Fiction, a drabble in fact. It is exactly 100 words.
Outside in the inkiness, stars spun dizzyingly, yet in the cavernous calmness, I strained to comprehend the macabre scene. As an expert, a tomb I had expected, still the scene chilled me to the bone. Shadows lengthened, shortened, twisted, and turned over forms no longer human. Something bumped; I commanded myself to not shudder. I scanned about as whispers meant to reassure, uneased me. A screech tore my focus from the ghastly sights as a flicker drew me about. Heart booming in my ears and resonant breaths steaming before my eyes, I reckoned nothing left alive on the USS Andromeda.
