A History of Violence

Oh how I struggled
To sit there in silence
When threatened and harrassed
Renoucing my history of violence

Confronted by ignorance
Uneducated aggression
Approached with tempers flaring
Thoughts of teaching a lesson

Mentally challenged
Stuck in denial I'm guessing
But I controlled my emotions
Through this degrading session

Cursed and spit on
For helping a friend
That was down a dark path
With no sight in end

What kinda man would I be
If I sat back and pretend
That help was unneeded
Not the message to send

So I chose to step in
When others looked away
Once the truth surfaced
Support expected turned stray

Filled with displaced anger
Spitting venom that stang her
As if they'd have rather
Tied the noose to help hang her

But I stood my ground
Knowing my action was sound
Being abused and clowned
By a clown circling round

Making threats on my life
Backed by an insecure wife
Gutwreching accusations
Using their words like a knife

Understimate me they did
But I dealt with worse as a kid
As their own scared child hid
Burned by words like acid

As I stood against
This vigilant force
I was truly bewildered
Knowing all hope was lost

But when you know your heart
You stand strong despite cost
In hopes of support
Instead painful lines crossed

Leaving us to face this alone
Two hearts covered by frost
How differently things could've been
Instead a relationship tossed
