Brielle- Part II

Brielle- Part II

A Chapter by Navica Adkins

Brielle

I arrived at the Coffee Hut, ready to meet my friends.  I went up to the cashier and ordered a croissant and a mocha latte, and went to get a table. I sat outside, and felt the sun beating down on my back and breathed in the smell of fresh-baled bread at the bakery across the street.  I finally felt content for the first time in twenty-four hours.  That is, until my phone rang.  Even though I didn’t recognize the phone number, I decided to pick it up anyway.

“Hello?”

“Hi, is this Brielle Denton?”  A woman’s voice spoke into the phone.  She sounded old, but not in a bad way.  She sounded like the grandmother I never had.

“Yes it is.  May I ask who is calling?”

“This is Nurse Livingston at Valley Front Hospital.  Do you have any relation to Savannah Leighford?”

“Yeah, shes my best friend.  Is everything okay?”

“Not exactly.  We just admitted her to the hospital.  She was trying to make a u-turn when she misjudged the road and went into a ditch and crashed.”

“Oh my God!  Is she going to be okay?”

“Well, she is unconscious at the moment, so we can’t make an exact prediction at this time.”

“Okay.  I’ll be right there!”

I hung up the phone and stuffed half the croissant in my mouth.  I got in my car and drove as quickly as I could to the hospital.  On the way there, I called Hailey to see if she had found out yet.

“Hey Bri.”

“Hey Hailey.  How fast can you make it to Valley Front Hospital?”  I asked.

“I guess fifteen minutes.  Why?  Is everything okay?”

“Not really.  Savannah is in the... the...”

All of a sudden, I began to cry.  The waterwork wouldn't  stop flowing and before I knew it I had arrived at the hospital.

" Bri, what happened to Savannah? You need to calm down and tell me!" screamed Hailey into the phone as she tried to soothe me.

"Savannah was in a car accident and now she's at the hospital. She was coming to meet me at Coffee Hut to talk. Didn't she call you?"

"Yeah, but I was in the shower and by the time I got out it was silent. Is she ok?" Hailey asked with a hint of doubt in her voice.

" I don't know. They couldn’t reach her parents so they called me because I was the last person she had talked to"

" Wait in your car. I'm on my way" Hailey said before the phone went silent.

I couldn’t help but think about how crazy the past two days had been. Then it got me thinking about dreams rather nightmares that had just recently stopped. They had something to do with three little girls and a castle and something having to do with a curse but my memory had suppressed the rest. No one knew about them, not even Sav or Hailey. I was to embarrassed and scared to even speak about them so I kept it hidden. Then one night they stopped. After a whole year, they just went away. It wasn't long before I realized that somehow this had to do with my dreams. The nightmares were coming true.
