Thanksgiving Day Heritage by Levi Levin

Thanksgiving Day Heritage by Levi Levin

A Poem by Levi Levin
"

Thanksgiving day originated in United States culture as a proclamation given by President Washington and President Lincoln as a day to give thanks for our blessings. It's now turned a shopping spree.

"
Thanksgiving Day Heritage by Levi Levin
To our shores the pilgrims came
With faith and family did they bring

The pilgrim and the Indian alike
We're thankful for natures delight

A time of Thanksgiving with family and friends
A day where peace and thanks begin

They were thankful to the Lord above
And helped each other from a heart of love

A day of Thanksgiving -Washington and Lincoln embarked
A day to never forget -engraved in our hearts

For decades we paused to give thanks
Together with family and friends we stood in the ranks

Now a change in Thanksgiving has slipped in
Open those doors and let us in!

A dash to get instead to give
How long will Thanksgiving live?

here in canada we just celebrated thanksgiving today. thankfully most of the country commercially was shuttered. few exceptions, for tourist areas, essential services such as drug stores, and theaters, but big box have to wait until tuesday to rob us blind

Ok sounds great! Thanks for stopping by !!
What a question you pose. I too can remember times when it was taken for granted that we'd all come together and give thanks for what we had, what we could and did share with others.

Take care and enjoy the holidays. Dave

Thanks Dave. Happy New Year!
I think you’re right about the idea of getting instead of giving thanks, as was done long ago by families and politicians; then they were thankful for so many things, including the harvest and the respect people showed for one another…today do we give thanks for the same things? Somewhat, but our society is so divided and there is so much hate that it makes life more difficult to be thankful for much.
Nice write.
Best, B.

You’re very welcome! Levi!
Although we don't celebrate thanksgiving, I'm glad you guys continue with the tradition, that is so often swept aside for modernity. Hope you all have a great day and find lots to be thankful for.

Yeah, so true. I actually saw a pre black Friday, black Friday sale today. Greed is the word. :)
Well done, Levi. We celebrate Thanksgiving in October in Canada, But the sentiment is the same. Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Absolutely no critique necessary here for a poem that shines with each successive line.
