My CrimeA Poem by Keturah IpaliwanI got convicted and tried. I was guilty of a crime I didn’t intend to commit. I was charged a life sentence for committing a crime I never knew was even a crime. I was convicted in an unfair court and trialed by an unjust judge. The evidence was there and there were many witnesses, but no one would admit that I had an accomplice. I was sent to prison, while my accomplice was set free. I was played a fool in the whole plot. The game was rigged from the beginning. I had no chances of rising victorious. The judge asked “what do you plead?” And I pleaded guilty for I saw neither shame nor any reason to fear in that. I couldn’t understand then and I still can’t understand now, why loving you was a crime. © 2017 Keturah IpaliwanAuthor's Note
