Not What I Want, But I’m Still Lucky

I wanted to cry so bad.  So, I just hid.

I wanted to punch something.  I did.

I just wanted to be with you.  I can’t.

So I might as well just stay here and rant.

When will I see you again, I can’t know

I find it hard to call you, but it doesn’t show

It reminds me that I can’t be with you face to face

But I’m stuck here in this isolated place

But even as crave everything that can’t be

I’m reminded of my thankful that I got to see

How great we were together and the time spent

Was not in vain, to me - how much you meant

This isn’t really what I want for us; however,

I can’t say much: you made me so lucky

Gee
Guess I'm in the cheesy club too at times. I like a bit of rhyming verse so enjoyed this James.
Hope you are keeping well in these most challenging of times.

I'm glad you said "cheesy" in your author's note . . . a word I hate to see poets use to describe their own work . . . but I have to admit, this is a little cheesy. I'm not a fan of love & heartbreak poems for exactly this reason, becuz they often come out sounding self-absorbed & whiny. At least you don't do the blame thing, which I really hate. I've read 3 of your poems for the first time now & I'm still struggling to figure out how to respond. The best thing about your poetry is that, even tho you do write about the hackneyed woes of the lovelorn (not my fave), the thing is, you express yourself in ways that are quite unexpected & this is what makes me unable to reject your cheesy lovelorn bent. I love writing that's not like anything else & yours is uniquely stated. I'm sorry I had to drag you thru this confessional before I could give you a wholehearted compliment. But you got me when you admitted that you like this kind of stuff & many other poets do, as well! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
