The Call of DeathA Poem by JamesTleBournIf Time numbers its ticks sufficient upon my soul If the Judge of Life eyes my existence and lets go the toll If shadows shine brighter than all that I've known If my body decides to degenerate under mounds of stone O' Master of Death, I'll heed your call But I'll stand strong, I'll stand tall When the sound of monitors ring like a bell When the dark Charon carries me to the Gates of Hell When my blank, breached eyes discern no more When, in casket, my flesh descends beneath the floor O' Master of Death, I'll heed your call But I'll stand strong, I'll stand tall Now that tears, rushing like a river, adorn my family's face Noe that my turn is finally over, I've played my final ace Now that my name, in legacy and retention, stands in earth Now that my cold, dejected lips shall no longer bear mirth O' Master of Death, I heeded your call But I have stood strong, and I have stood tall Now that my soul has endured what it's like to die My kin, I have one final word for thee: Goodbye © 2020 JamesTleBournFeatured Review
