When the Stars No Longer Bare Light

When the Stars No Longer Bare Light

A Poem by JamesTleBourn

When the eagle preys the dove

If the warm sun sets

When push comes to shove

I want you to

Just know that I will stay to fight

For you every step of the way, despite

When the stars no longer bare light

When the war breaks out

If the tides roll in

When suddenly comes drought

I want you to

Just know that I’ll strive til I get it right

Hold my pen even as I can’t write

When the stars no longer bare light

When the king’s trumpets sound not

If the infant’s cries cease

When Time releases the sand it’s got

I want you to

Just know that I will search without sight

As I am broken, I shall still incite

When the stars no longer bare light

For I will give myself to torment if only

You’ll never have to ever feel lonely

Self sacrifice is a sign of true strength. Being selfish is far, far more easy and usually commonly hidden behind layers of denial, guilt and various mental gymnastics that make us feel more altruistic than we really are.

This is good work. Well done.

So true, Dave. Selfishness is far too easy, and I wish it weren't. Thank you for your review.

I love the overall message, I think that personally the flow wasn't the smoothest but that's probably a result of trying to fit the scheme. The idea of always wanting to be there for someone is a message a lot of people can relate to so I really enjoyed reading this.
