D.S.M

D.S.M

A Poem by Nathan J
"

Dar Es Salaam (D.S.M), my city, in my eyes

"

Where the roads are our jungle,

thieves walk among u,

heat is almost constant,

whilst time is less important.

And most’ve of the time

if u try 2 keep to that ‘t’ word,

you’ll need a 3-wheeled miracle

in these parts;

2 weave u in & out

but be warned,

ur heart, may end up, in ur mouth.

Justice reigns supreme,

If you can afford it.

Afford the time, afford the cash,

& afford the annoyance.

Where an island paradise

is 20 minutes away,

2 ease the stresses of life

keeping them @ bay.

Where rush hour

couldn’t be any slower;

Where service

couldn’t be more of a horror.

Where money is the order of the day.

But @ the end of the day

it remains,

scarce to many.

All the while,

it still remains a land of smiles,

and can supply

a nite of madness, mayhem or style.

With folks dressed 2 impress,

casual then works others,

a nite not 2 4get

is what both sets

are afta.

This is where the crème de la crème

meet en masse,

@ the local den

or the spots with supposed ‘class’.

Corporate & political bigwigs,

& blue collar individ’s,

can easily come together

over a few drinks.

This is my home

where I reside,

with its pitfalls

& all;

Powercuts,

Infrequent water supply & more;

But its where I’ve had the best of nites;

the best of days

the best times.

and so I’ll

…hail its name.

This is my

D.S.M!
