Perhaps Lying Is Bad, But the Truth Is WorseA Poem by NathWould you rather be told a terrible truth or soothed by a lovely lie if you had the choice?
I've turned into a liar whose words can’t be trusted
But if I was always honest, then you'd be so digusted Because the truth is something that's really repulsive Which leaves me with no other choice but to hide it. Thus, I learned to lie, practiced to perfect my fibs, And studied how to make them smoothly cross my lips. Now my well-trained tongue twists the truth as taught, To manufracture my lies, bulk goods often enough bought Since I know my lines accurately, having my lies well rehearsed So they are good, and though lying’s bad, the truth is worse. The truth, it can be ugly, nasty, and overall not a pretty sight Certainly not something that ever should be brought to light To be gawked at and gauged by everyone's so judgmental eyes, And rather concealed with thick, dark lays of more lovable lies. Truth's true nature seems so abhorrent every once in a while That it is sickening how gross it got, hideous and so very vile, Enough to make even the lies less loathsome than lying really is Because they veil truths so terrible that ignorance becomes bliss. Not always should the truth, buried beneath layers of lies, be unearthed Because sometimes everything is so far better when it is interred deep Deep down underground where it may forever, hopefully, rest in peace Because, although lying isn't good, at times the truth is what is worst. © 2011 NathAuthor's Note
