Hypocritical Oath

Hypocritical Oath

A Poem by Natalie C
"

This is a special dedication to all those people out there who thinks it is alright to judge people before having a long good look at themselves first

"

Hypocrites, stand up!

Let the world see your superficial faces

You, yes you my artificial friend,

With your holier than thou expression

Step away from your supposed light

‘Cause your phony path

Is already paved with bloodied thorns

Not from the crown of Christ

But with spears from the dark one’s face

Coming out in the deathbed of the night,

Feeding from energy locked behind shadows

As carelessly the vampires deviously roam

Sitting there, writing your supposed note

Of a suicide which would never please the cross.

Sleeping with voodoo dolls and ghost

You made your cradle underneath

A hallowed moon, a razor wired shrine

That would never wash away coercion of yesterday.

Waking up at night, pleading to a false god

Wishing for powers you could never control

In your self righteous quest of ruling the world

As your mortal hunt turns into false gold

Just dragging your feet, leaving a visible trail

For those whom thrive in darkness’s light

Craving the vengeance, you etched upon their hearts

Choosing so carefully, a faith that has died

As you try one last time to imprison a life that has departed life's skies

Wow! This is ... well.... intense!

Clear in its message -- judge not lest thee be judged
but I find that when I judge others for passing judgment --
I am guilty of the same. It is truly a vicious cycle --
almost a never-ending one.
I think if we approach life with a loving and kind view --
try to encourage eachother rather than tear
eachother down -- stop envying (huge cause of judgment) --
start removing the logs in our own eyes before trying to pluck the
splinter out of another's -- so on and so forth -- then we would
truly see a difference in this world.
Loving one's self is when loving others becomes simple.
That's the key.
Now, I need to go back and read my own words --
and apply them -- myself.

Exceptional work and awesome message!! Thank you!

I was drawn to this poem by its title. I expected it to be about the oath of Hypocrates, an oath which all medical doctors have to take before they are allowed to practice medicine... No medical malpractices here, no medical hypocrits here ... or? I am sure they too are included in this poem.
Anyway, I like the way you take a stand against all the fake people out there, so fake that they do not even realize anymore that they are nothing but a bunch of perfectly adjusted creatures without any personality who have sold their soul to the devil in order to gain their own success...
Yes, I am sure that in the end they will be taken to justice by a higher power or will suffer from their own actions for I believe that ultimately everyone will be treated like they have treated others.
Nothing wrong here using dark imagenary, for their world is a dark one without them realizing themselves.
In fact the dark images form the perfect mirror for the darkness they are forcing their victims to live in!
In a way, this could be compared to a Faust like work, whether by Goethe or by Marlowe, the outcome is the same!

Of course they will slink away when they read this, probably with a sneer. Or they will say, 'I was only joking' or some such. Like 'spears from the dark one's face' and 'energy locked behind shadows'. You capture the aloof sniper-critic to a T. And if such a one can't take what they dish out they are too small for words. Great riposte!

I find in reading this that I'm drawn in by the claustrophobic dark imagery. There's no escaping each line having an energy that shows powerful feelings. That makes the poem live, in some respects I'm drawn to a modern art painting, a surrealist picture of all the ideas closely meshed together. I see the hypocrite looking smug with his expression of glee having deliberately misinterpreted a life that was never his to offer judgement on. As night draws in, he creates a 'death' of a poet by questioning their views, offering sickening suicide as an answer. But he will not escape his own fate as the darkness comes to offer realisation that he is a fool, an idiot doomed by his own ignorance. The hypocrite is burned by his failings, the flames eating away his own god and faith, bringing him ultimate destruction at the hands of demons. The question at the end, although not written as such, is ultimately why someone would choose to destroy anothers soul, one that has cried 'Help Me!' and was instead mocked. Retribution always finds a way.

You know this is a great poem and I hope this will lead onto more that will push your boundaries further. xx.

to judge people is to be judge yourself. There is no reason why we should get judge by people who can not even life up to the same standard. A very well written piece to say the least.
