Common Ground

Common Ground

A Poem by Natalie C

Yesterday is already taken

And there is no promise of what tomorrow may hold

Every morning we wake

Staring at today’s shimmering gold

Live has a funny way of revealing itself

Knowing that this planet

Never ceases to turn

In this now a superficial world

Filled with false pretences and fake faces

Some unobvious beats echoes

In the furthest corners of the earth

As strangers we stand, jointly divided

Catching the pulse

Of the despair that is always nearby

Two separate souls slowly evaporating

Underneath the same old sky

As darkness’s pendulum swings

Opening the gates of those who could never tell

Trapped within the shadows

Of these crazed abandoned sidewalks

Etched inside the cracks of hell

A cosmic attraction

Born and woven from the very same realm

Mercilessly falling though thousand voids

Where angels silently walk

Among the hurried rush of ghostly prints

Paved upon a path covered in dust

Ripping through the chains of belief

Where our worlds finally meet

On common grounds, barren and bleak

Knowing mortal words doesn’t mean a thing

The essence of our beings, hidden

Behind the transparency of soul departed eyes

Coming to realize that in this darkness

We all stand alone in a soundless maze

I'm not even sure what to say...

Excellent!!!

The flow - feel - pulse of this piece is mesmerizing.

"In this now a superficial world

Knowing mortal words doesn't mean a thing
The essence of our beings, hidden
Behind the transparency of soul departed eyes
Coming to realize that in this darkness
We all stand alone in a soundless maze"

These were the two most powerful verses in this piece. The contrast between alone and togetherness the strongest feeling. To see yourself standing in a mass of people - alone.

Well done Natalie... well done!!!

Beautiful once again, my friend. You know sometimes it's hard to really get what you're saying. You read before anything hits you. Your words have an odd way of hypnotizing you until the very end. When you reach the last sentense you have to start all over! Haha.

I love it! Your words my be piercing and harsh, but your use allows them to wash over the reader. It's really an amazing thing. Thank you for sharing this with me!

This is a bit chilling but brings out a great point that no matter how many loved ones we have in our lives their is a part of us deep down that is always alone and that is the part we want no one to see in fear of not being excepted... one of your best works ever.

Damn! I think u have pretty much summed up the entire world and galaxy of life here. I, too, believe that people of this world are mostly fake. Almost as if we were all robots with hardly any feelings, and we are made to just work to get jobs done, and do nothing else. It would be nice to meet those who do actually care about us, and mean everything they say, and to love us like no other in a fairytale fantasy. Superb work hun. This was really awesome :)

The common superficial life we all walk though, feeling alone but sharing the sameness, connecting souls destined to meet. I really found this poem fascinating and invoking. Well written.

Awesome!
This poem immediately stood out as one of the best I have read on here in a while.
I totally agree with gary that it is deserving of being published somewhere more prestigious than WC. But I am glad I got to read it here :)
Great write!

very nice poem. I am happy to see such deep philosophical poetry from your pen and very happy you are back. welcome, natalie. loved it from the fist till the last line. in the dance of life everybody is dancing for him or herself it just looks like we would go hand by hand.. but we don't...

This is a very impressive poem. I don't feel right about reading this on WC as it seems to be demanding a higher standing, maybe a magazine or book to be published in. Noticing that this is a departure from previous works, this talks to us all about our own belonging in the world or how frail we really are in our attempt to survive. I hope that you are not stopping your personal work which I believe is very important in bringing home to people the problems you are faced with.

This is a very strong poem and you are a strong writer. xx
