Contrast

Contrast

A Poem by Natalie Wisecraft
"

To that racist jerk at the supermarket who thinks he knows everything about me and my family by just looking at us. And actually, to everyone else out there just like him - don't hate my opinion of you when I have to deal with it every single time I'm wit

"

You look down on us

Because we're not like you

You say awful things

That just aren't true

I don't think of my family

In the way that you do

They are beautiful

Unlike you

You don't know us

You have no clue

It makes me sick

At the thought of you

Your twisted smile

Your pale white skin

Your eyes alight

Whilst hating us again

So why so much hate?

It doesn't make sense

When you hate someone

With so much innocence

You look at him

Then you look at me

And you wonder

How, on earth, this possibly this could be

You live somewhere

Where beauty is found

In everyone

Even those you decide to hound

But you're so full of hate

You're so irrate

You look at my fate

And think it's not great

Let me be the judge

Of who I let in my life

Let me be the one

To push people like you aside

I don't want you near me

I hate your glare on me

I hate you more

Than you could possibly hate us

And just so you know

Here's what I love about them

The way my golden hair sparkles

Against the blackness of his

The way his dark skin

Looks so warm against white

The way his dark, penetrating eyes

Seem to see right through

Everyone, but most of all

The likes of you

The way his innocence and charm

Are thrown my way

And when he giggles

My heart melts away

His hair a dark gold

His skin a light tan

How his hair curls just like mine

But his eyes penetrate like his

How could you possibly hate

Two people that have always

Looked after me when fate

Has dealt me the worst of all blows

When people like you

Think you rule the world

Just think about what you could do

If you let love into your heart

I feel sorry for you

You will never feel

The way that I do

About anything real

And you sit there and judge

A book by its cover

Because we contrast outside

But are essentially the same
