The CardinalA Poem by Naomi RenéeDeep in the woods On a tall cedar tree, A little red cardinal Sits fast asleep. When morning dew falls On his bright coat of
red, He ruffles his feathers And raises his head. Flapping his wings He flies to the ground, And pecks at the seeds That are lying around. “Chee-err! Chee-err!” Calls the little bird, And an answering call From the trees can be
heard. Out of the forest Flies a bright-beaked
female; And the cardinal hops
to her, Twitching his tail. Together they sing, Then away they fly Toward the sun that is
rising In the eastern sky. © 2011 Naomi RenéeAuthor's Note
