The Memories Fade

The Memories Fade

A Poem by Naomi Garland
"

This is a poem I wrote for my grandpa who had died years ago on my 6th birthday.

"

The memories fade

along with the picture

all I can remember

are things that I'm told

but even those aren't enough

when you're six years old.

I watch home videos

and see the two of us

on the back of your old truck

but it isn't the same

without you here to see them

it isn't the same when

the memories fade.

This was a very touching piece of literature to which people can easily relate. Your examples, likewise, are typical that those who have endured the same and can feel the same emotion. However, I can see that for those who have not experienced the lost of a love one, the loss probably isn't expressed *enough* to make a huge impact.
Anyways, I very much enjoyed it. The rhythm was good, and your "in and out" style of rhyming works well within your format. Repeating the line "the memories fade" does cement the purpose of your poem. Nice work.
